I Can Rhyme

This is a busy 10 to 12 week plan. It challenges gifted learners, although TEARN members can simplify the plan for a more moderate pace. (Lesson Plan)

These lessons present over 1,500 simple words organized by rhyme. Learners choose from over 1,500 worksheets (i.e. about 15 books worth of materials) and 60 games to match their style of learning.

  • The English language has basic rules for pronouncing long and short vowel sounds.
  • There is also a finite list of phonics using compound consonants.
  • Each lesson here reinforces one vowel use in combination with various ending phonic.
  • The English language also has many exceptions.
  • Exceptions are presented with the rules in each lesson.

This course lets learners quickly learn the rules and exceptions for pronouncing and spelling words. They learn through repeated exposure to the carefully organized list of 1,500 words.

The course is a wonderful supplement to any Grade 1 through 3 language program. It can be presented as an after school spelling club with weekly spelling bees. Learners practice the words, and compete to spell the words for the week correctly.

A weekly spelling contract guides learning of spelling and vocabulary.
